The other side of Harper Adams

This section of the site is aimed more towards those students who aren't at Harper - yet! Your've probably heard that we are a small university, and therefore the general assumption is that there isn't much happening on Campus (Wrong!) and probably not a lot going on around either

A bit about Newport & Telford

A very nice little place, and it does't have bad range of shops for the size of the population. However, it is only a market town, and whilst it has everything you will ever need immediately, anything else in 15 minutes away in Telford, with it's HUGE Indoor Shopping Centre.

It has over 15 Cafes/Resturants, and roughly 160-170 stores so you could easily spend spend all day here!

Supermarkets

Newport has two main supermarkets; a Waitrose and a Somerfields, as well as a Woolworths, Gregg's, Orange, Post Office, charity shops galore and various other useful stores.

Further afield, Telford offers Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Netto and Aldi. If you need it, Telford's got it! Asda is a 15 minute drive.

As for petrol, Newport has a BP and a Shell garage. Shell is on the Chetwynd End of the High Street, whilst BP is on Forton Road.

For outdoor gear, you need only visit Countrywide, just off the A41 nearing newport, for all outdoor gear, coats, waterproofs, wellies, etc etc. For more outdoor pursuit items, try Go Outdoors, just off Stafford Road on the A41. They stock everything from gaitors to balaclavas.

Stuck for dressing up on a Wednesday? Go no further than Castle Capers, Newport's (or the Harper Student's!) very own fancy dress and general joke shop. They know in advance of themed Wednesday nights and order in the relevant stock.

If Newport or Telford aren't to your taste, Birmingham's Bullring is roughly 45-50 minutes away, depending on traffic, and is another alternative. However, Telford really does have everything!

Newport's Pubs

There are more pubs in Newport than you might think, and they all love us students to bits because we spend our money in them!

One things for certain, Harper's based in some beautiful Shropshire countryside, and despite that, everything's to hand. Even if you can't drive, you'll get to know people who do and you will come to realise we're just like any other mainstream University.
