Clubs and Societies

For its size, Harper has an excellent range of both clubs and societies, not to mention the facilities to boot! You will find two sections below, with the traditional Sporting Clubs under one and Clubs & Societies under the other.

So, you want to start a new club?

Can't find the American Football Club? No worries mate!
Leaving University with a degree will be great, but leaving University knowing that you have participated in a wide range of extra curricular activities is even better. There's certainly more to life at University than just academic work and visiting the Harper Bars.

Whether it's Rugby or Netball, Outdoor Pursuits or the Conservation Society, hopefully there will ba a Club or Society to suit you. If not, start a new one!

Clubs rely on the enthusiasm of its chairman/chairwoman and its members, so you will need to maintain a structure, allowing the continuation of the club. It also allows funds and facilites to accumulate.

To start a new club:

1. Develop a plan of what you want to do/achieve.
2. Establish an estimate of the costs likely to be incurred.
3. Approach Ben Harper, the Clubs & Societies Co-ordinator, with a view to start a new club.

You should also speak to the SU Treasurer concerning funding and a reasonable subscription for members.

Questions? Queries? Just come up and chat to Ben Harper, Helen Plant, or any member of the SU. We'll point you in the right direction.
